Control Descriptions

Control descriptions tell you what feature the control is placed on and if appropriate the size of the feature and the relative position of the control flag.It helps you form a mental picture of what the control will look like when you get there.

Descriptions will normally be printed on your map in a grid, these are usually also available separately, as when you fold the map they may be out of sight, they are normally carried on the wrist in a special holder or maybe just pinned to your sleeve for quick reference.

NOTE column B is the control code - this is the number on the actual control when you find it and tells you that you have the correct one, successful orienteers ALWAYS check the code as a mis punch discovered at download means automatic disqualification.
