STOP PRESS (21 Jan) Haggis neeps and tatties available after your run (we are looking in to vegetarian options). See info in "refreshments" section below for how to order. We've had 41 orders by Sat 21st and the chef will be doing enough for 50-60 people. All we need is someone to do the Immortal Memory and we have ourselves a Burns Supper. The cost will be £6.50 for a adult portion and £5 for kids.

It's Burns Night and time for the Northern Night Cup Round 6 sponsored by Run4It Inverness and Brightbikelights.com

To get event updates as they happen please follow the NNC Round 6 Facebook Page.

Entry. To enable us to reduce the manpower/resources necessary to hold the event, all entries will be exclusively via Oentries. Entries will remain open until the night before the event. So there's no rush to enter but you MUST enter by Tuesday 24 Jan. Anyone entering who can't make it on the night will get a free entry to a future Moravian event.

We have created a map (1:5,000 scale) specifically for this event based on the Forres East Map

Registration. Check in/map collection is at Forres Golf Club with start and finish adjacent to the club house.

Refreshments. The Golf Club will be laying on haggis, neeps and tatties but we have to give the Golf Club numbers beforehand. Please complete this survey monkey poll if you would like to order. Please note that the club is likely to have to cover the cost of any food ordered and not paid for so please only order if you're sure!

About the Northern Night Cup. See details of this year's NNC Series HERE and in particular these event guidelines

Note that head torches by one of our sponsors BrightBikeLights.com will be on sale at the event at a 10% discount, and available for inspection/testing.

Courses available:

Long (Muckle) 5.5km 95m climb, 24 controls - technically moderate

Medium (Middlin) 4.1 km 65m climb, 24 controls - technically moderate

Small (Mickle) 2.5 km 40m climb, 21 controls - technically easy to moderate (in daytime this would be a Yellow but the darkness makes is harder)

The Muckle course includes some streets as well as the hurdies near Cluny Hill and will include running on a wide variety of terrain – some steep and potentially slippery.  Middlin and Muckle courses also use parts of Muiry Woods (watch out for wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beasties), but the Mickle courses are confined to the golf course area itself. Runners are advised to keep clear of the water features (puddocks and newts) and the cemetery is strictly out of bounds “whare ghaists and houlets nightly cry”. Hopefully the weather will be kinder than when Tam O’Shanter made his way home - The doubling storm roars thro' the woods; The lightnings flash from pole to pole; Near and more near the thunders roll: When, glimmering thro' the groaning trees, Forres Golf Club seem'd in a bleeze.

On the Long course only there are some very steep and potentially dangerous ascent/descent routes.  Please take care and wear appropriate orienteering shoes.  The top of a short steep section will be taped off with black/yellow tape.

Start and finish adjacent to the clubhouse

Map scale 1:5,000. Loose control descriptions will be available for all courses.

Maps will be issued at check-in for all courses. Orienteers are noted for their honesty so to make life as convenient as possible for everyone you will get your map on arrival. Runners on the Long/Medium are trusted to not look at their maps or pre-plan routes until you have started.

Shadowing Rules. Note that anyone under the age of 14 MUST be accompanied on the course by an adult unless the parent/guardian can convince the organizer of the young orienteer's proven competence at night orienteering. Adults shadowing juniors on the short course WILL be allowed to run competitIvely on the Medium/Long afterwards. If you shadow a junior on the Medium/Long you will NOT be allowed to run competitively yourself.

NB - PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON THE TIME WHILE OUT ON YOUR COURSE. Failure to return by the 8pm cutoff causes safety problems and inconvenience. We appreciate that this sometimes occurs accidentally but please plan accordingly.
