IMPORTANT - FOR THE SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIPS THERE IS NO ENTRY ON THE DAY OR LATE ENTRY AFTER THE ON-LINE ENTRY DEADLINE OF SUNDAY 12 FEB. THERE IS LIMITED EOD FOR RACE 1 OF THE SPRINTS BUT THIS IS NOT PART OF THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Moravian Orienteers are delighted to welcome you to Lossiemouth for the Scottish Sprint Championships on Sunday 19 February 2017. This event is also one of the UK Urban League (UKUL) races (see http://www.oxfordfusion.com/ukul/ for further information), and one of the Scottish Orienteering Urban League (SOUL) events (see http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/soul).

The Scottish Sprint Championships (and the SOUL and UKUL for this event) is made up of 2 races in Lossiemouth and competitor times are combined for the final result.

 

Directions

Registration and assembly are in the Lossiemouth FC Social Club (41 Macduff St, IV31 6ET). Please do NOT confuse it with the Lossiemouth Indoor Sports and Social Club which is just round the corner in Queens Lane.

 

Parking

Please park in the Lossie East Beach public car park a couple of hundred yards east of the social club. Also, use the streets nearby (Macduff St, Moray St and Queen St); they are wide and not very busy. There is a small car park at the Social Club: this will be used for event officials only please.

 

Toilets

In the Social Club and at Lossie Community Centre (for Start 2).

 

Refreshments

Refreshments will be on offer at the FC Social Club, and there are shops and cafes a short distance away.

All competitors must report to Registration and collect their back-up cards (including those with their own Brikkes).

 

Start times

Start times will be pre-allocated. The punch type is Emit. Please be on time for your start as it will not be possible to change times. You must clear your Brikke at the Start.

Course Distances & Climb

Course distances aim for a winning time of 12-15 mins. Distances range from 1.6km (Course 6) to 3.7km (Course 1), with Race 1 in general being slightly shorter than Race 2. There is minimal climb in either race.

Warnings

Please respect the public; try to avoid collisions; look out for Dog Poo; pavements are slippery when damp or icy.

Controls

EMIT Controls with number horizontally on plastic plate. Many of the stakes will be mounted in Traffic Cones.

 

Eligibility

Please note the following:

Trophies shall be available to the first Scot in each age group. For this purpose members of Scottish open

Clubs shall be automatically recognised as “Scots”. Other orienteers wishing to be classed as “Scottish”,

such as those born in Scotland or long-term Scottish residents currently living outside Scotland or

competing for their university, must make their status known to the organiser before the race

Scots” are any one of the following

a] born in Scotland

b] have at least one Scottish parent

c] be a member of the Scottish Orienteering Association

 

Those competitors who are members of 'closed clubs' who wish to be classed as Scottish must complete the eligibility form at Registration.

 

Safety Information

  • All Competitors are advised to check the course they are running matches their experience and fitness.

  • All competitors are responsible for their own Road Safety.

  • Under 12s need to be accompanied to the start of both races. Under 12s do not need to be accompanied on the courses.

  • You MUST report to Download by Course Closing Time.

  • Please check for ticks after the event.

  • Cars may be driven (to park) on playing fields.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events and not joined an orienteering club that is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.

 

There is the option of completing a Medical form at Registration. It could be life saving if the organisers are aware of any existing medical conditions in the event of an incident. You can leave it at registration/enquires in a sealed envelope that will only be opened if required and destroyed after the event.

 

Entry on the Day

Those wishing to compete in the Scottish Sprint Championships and/or the UKUL and SOUL must have pre-entered on Oentries. There will be no entry on the day for those who wish to compete in the Scottish Sprint Championships and UKUL.

There will be entry on the day for those who wish to run the first race only (and will therefore be ineligible for the Scottish Sprint Championships and SOUL/UKUL). Please report to Registration for EOD.

There is very little climb in either area (max 20m).  The distances stated below are ‘straight line’.  Ideal routes will add less than 10% to distance.
